A Health Coach is a trained professional who works with you to support and guide you in achieving better health. They are your partner in managing chronic conditions, improving your overall wellness, and helping you make healthier lifestyle choices. All our health coaches are board-certified by the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching, the gold standard and most recognized certification in the field.
Your Health Coach will collaborate with you to create a personalized plan based on your goals and recommendations from your doctor. They provide ongoing support through regular check-ins, keeping you motivated and on track. Whether you're managing a condition or simply aiming for better health, your Health Coach is here to help you succeed.
Our program is covered by most major commercial insurance providers, as well as Medicare and Medicaid. Rest assured, we will verify your coverage and inform you about any potential out-of-pocket costs before any billing happens.
Your first call with your health coach is completely free. You will not be billed for any services until you meet with our Nurse Practitioner, who will review your health history and create a personalized care plan for you. We collect your insurance details upfront only to check your coverage and let you know of any copays or out-of-pocket costs before you decide whether to continue. This way, you have all the information you need from the start—no surprises.
Here’s what to expect as you get started:
- Meet with your coach – This first call is completely free, and you won’t be billed for anything until you meet with the Nurse Practitioner (NP).
- Meet with the NP – They’ll review your health history and create a plan for at-home testing.
- Receive your medical devices – You won’t be charged for the devices themselves.
- Set up your devices & portal – Your coach will walk you through setup during a session.
- Ongoing coaching & device readings – You’ll meet with your coach regularly, at least once a month.
- Stay connected – You can message your coach anytime between sessions.
- Get support when needed – If a reading is out of the normal range, we’ll reach out to help you take the right steps.
Your coach will check-in with you at least once a month. The exact schedule depends on what works best for you, and you’ll decide on the right frequency together. If you ever need extra support, you can message your Health Coach any time through secure email, text message or our Patient Portal.
If you have an eligible condition, such as diabetes or hypertension, you'll receive a free monitoring device and testing supplies shipped directly to your door. You can easily track your progress through our patient portal, which is available through a web browser or our mobile app. In the patient portal, you’ll be able to view your readings, track your health goals, generate a health report, securely message your health coach, and more!
You could be eligible to receive one or more of the following devices, depending on your diagnosed conditions:
Glucometer and testing supplies: Anyone with a diagnosis of diabetes.
Blood pressure cuff: Anyone with diabetes, chronic hypertension or gestational hypertension.
Weight scale: Anyone with congestive heart failure.
Yes, your coach will have access to your readings! This helps them get a clearer picture of your progress and make personalized recommendations to keep you on track.
Yes, if you feel that your coach is not the right fit for you, you can always request to be paired with another coach. We want you to feel comfortable and supported throughout your health journey, so we are happy to accommodate your needs.
Your coach will reach out to you to arrange times for your check-ins. You can also schedule through the patient portal, or send your coach a message to find a time that works for you!
To best prepare for health coaching, find a quiet, private space free from distractions where you feel comfortable discussing your health information and goals. It can also be helpful to have recent lab work and a list of medications on hand. Health coaching involves personal reflection and brainstorming on possible action steps with your coach - the more you engage in the coaching process, the more you get out of each session!
Absolutely! We encourage it. Your health coach will help make sure your care plan aligns with your doctor’s recommendations. We also create a Health Report with your medical device readings and health goals. If you'd like, we can send it to your doctor securely by email or fax—either as a one-time request or on a regular schedule.
No, we won’t replace your doctor. We work alongside them to give you extra support between visits, helping you follow their recommendations and stay on track with your health.
We collaborate with hospitals, clinics and primary care doctors all around the country. You have been referred by your clinical care team because they believed you could benefit from joining the program.
You can download the Starlight portal app on the Play Store or the App Store. Alternatively, you can access the web portal on https://portal.hellostarlight.com. You can log in using either your email address or phone number, depending on which one you provided to your coach for your login.
